Apple Tablet to arrive with UK mobile partners?
Apple has approached several UK mobile networks about selling the Apple Tablet (which could well be called the iSlate or the iTablet). Some predict that the negotiations are a repeat of the battle for the original iPhone but with O2, Orange, Tesco Mobile and Vodafone now selling the iPhone 3GS, could we see the iSlate on multiple networks?
Apple is set to launch its “new creation” at an event in San Francisco next Wednesday (27 January). Whether the device is the iSlate, the iTablet or just purely the Apple Tablet, mobile companies will be fighting hard to secure the device. Their involvement would suggest that the device will pack 3G.
Mobile networks already offer subsidised devices like the Nokia Booklet with a 3G contract so seeing the Apple Tablet arrive with a similar deal wouldn’t be a huge shock. It is unlikely that the iSlate/iTablet will be available free on contract though as it’s likely to be significantly pricier than the iPhone.
The Guardian reports that Orange has been in talks with Apple about the iSlate but that Vodafone and O2 are also in the frame. Carphone Warehouse is likely to sell the device too given its links with the networks and previous experience selling the iPhone.
With only 7 days to go, there’s not long to wait until we can finally discover whether it’ll be the Apple Tablet, iTablet or iSlate and just which networks will have the pleasure of taking our cash. In the meantime, try our ultimate Apple Tablet round-up to help you get your head round all the clues we’ve seen so far and our guide to what you might use it for.
