Sony Reader vs Apple iPad
Nowadays, e-readers and tablets are the most wanted gadgets someone could have. New book readers are released so often today; that can only prove that the developers are in a race for a piece of the market share.
Sony has been involved in this “fight” since 2006 with their product, Sony eBook Reader. This gadget was interesting for that time, but after four years, Apple has released the iPad. The question is: will iPad kill the Sony eBook Reader?
Indeed, this question needs an honest answer in the Sony Reader vs Apple iPad fight. Consumers are wondering if companies like Sony will be left behind because of the iPad. It is true that all those companies have been in the market of tablets and readers for a few years, but the problem is that Apple offers something more.
We need to say that since the beginning, the Reader from Sony was made only for reading. They come in many models different with small differences. They have features like touchscreen and wireless e-book. The Sony Reader comes in many colors, different sizes and button styles. They have in common some abilities like search texts, highlight text hold many book titles at one and zoom in and out. Now, what about the battery life time? Well, you should know that the battery can last for two weeks when you are reading.
Another interesting fact is that Sony partnered with Google for an extensive e-book selection using the Reader Store. A Sony Reader owner should that that he can download e-book for free from a library. Also, you can upload your files from e-books to Word Documents, Audio files and PDF’s. The Sony Reader has an E-Ink screen (no matter the reader’s version) and that means that lighting issue and eye strain are a problem of the past.
What about the iPad? Well, everybody sure knows by now that it has great features and that one of them is the e-book reader and users can download book using the iBook application. Apple offers many attractions with the iPad, but the most important one that it can use any iPhone application as well as specific iPad applications. But there is more like Wi-Fi internet, Bluetooth, 3G, compass, accelerometer and haptics feedback.
The problem is that the iPad, as a reader, offers the same features that the users can find on any other tablet. The iBook store doesn’t have so many books as the reader Store and because of the screen that looks like a laptop, it can get difficult to read something after a long period. We should not forget about the battery: it can last only ten hours (it’s not even close to the Sony Reader battery‘s life).
Not decided yet which one to choose? Then you should think what features do you need and want on your tablet. These differences are really important if you have to choose between an iPad and a Sony Reader. For someone who need a reader and also needs to do other things, then the iPad is the right one. Also, the iPad is perfect for a person that would like an e-book reader, but doesn’t know if will use it that much. Sony Reader is only for those clients who are only focused on reading. The battery life time, the access to many digital books, the size (it’s smaller than the iPad), these are important things to concentrate on.
It’s true, there are many arguments in this Sony Reader vs Apple iPad fight and we can only guess who wins for now, but this can change.
